The B.C. Chinese Orchestra, established in 1995, was initially formed by six music enthusiasts with the goal of promoting the diversification of Chinese music. By 1997, the orchestra had grown to 30 members and held its first concert titled “Emerging Sounds”, aiming to promote Chinese music and cross-cultural performances through large-scale public concerts. The orchestra is committed to advancing the development of Chinese music with a professional spirit. They invite professional conductors and instrument instructors to guide rehearsals, enhancing the musical knowledge and performance skills of the members. The orchestra regularly organizes various cultural events and charity activities in the community, as well as Chinese musical instrument competitions. They hold two major concerts each year in spring and autumn, inviting professional musicians to introduce different instruments and musical pieces. They also organize special concerts featuring works by renowned composers to elevate the skills of their members and engage the audience. The orchestra frequently participates in public community events, performing in nursing homes, schools, community festivals, and charitable and entertainment shows. They also seize opportunities for cultural exchanges in other regions. In 2005, on their 10th anniversary, they were invited to perform for music enthusiasts in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. On their 20th anniversary in 2015, they were once again invited to perform, providing the members with a great sense of encouragement. Over the years, approximately 200 individuals have participated in the orchestra’s activities. The B.C. Chinese Orchestra is recognized by the Canadian federal government as a non-profit charitable organization and an non-profit interest group. Their mission is to promote Chinese music and culture, and they warmly welcome the participation and support of friends from all walks of life.
