高韶青,一九六七年出生,六歲時,開始學習二胡,兩年後即顯露才華作第一次公開表演,一九七九年,考入上海音樂學院附屬中學,專修二胡並開始學習鋼琴。一九八二年,獲上海少年民族獨奏比賽第一名;全國少年民樂獨奏比賽銀盾獎;上海音樂學院附中紀念劉天華先生演奏比賽優異獎。一九八四年,隨中國上海音樂家小組,包括著名鋼琴家李名強和小提琴家俞麗拿等,到加拿大訪問演出,並擔任二胡獨奏;同年獲上海音樂學院特別嘉獎令。一九八五年,獲北京全國二胡比賽一等獎及自選曲目、指定曲目兩個最佳演奏獎,上海文學藝術家聯合會頒發的「音樂表演藝術獎」,同年,以優異成績獲特許免考升上海音樂學院本科攻讀學士學位。一九八六年,獲海內外江南絲竹演奏比賽二等獎。一九八八年,隨中國上海民樂家小組出訪美國演出;同年,提前一年從上海音樂學院畢業,獲文學士學位;並應邀到中央民族樂團擔任獨奏演員。一九八九年,參加北韓主辦的世界青年聯歡節,獲藝術文憑的認可證書。一九九一年,考入加拿大多倫多皇家音樂學院,開始進修鋼琴和聲樂。一九九三年,被多倫多皇家音樂學院聘為歷史上第一位教授中國民族樂器演奏的教師,使二胡教學被設為正式的專業課程。
George GAO Shao-qing
George GAO was born in 1967. He started learning the erhu when he was six. In 1979 he entered the affiliated secondary school of Shanghai Conservatory with erhu as his major. In 1982 he won many prizes with his erhu performances. In 1984 George GAO visited Canada as an erhu soloist together with a group of Shanghai musicians including the celebrated pianist LI Ming-qiang and violinist YU Li-na. In the same year he won a special award from the Shanghai Conservatory. In 1985 he won a first class award ad two best performance awards for the self-selected work and the designated work in the National Erhu Competition in Beijing. In the same year, he was exempted from examinations due to his outstanding achievements and started to study in the bachelor degree course of Shanghai Conservatory. In 1986, he won the second prize in a Jiangnan music competition. In 1988, he visited the United States for performance together with a group of Shanghai Chinese musicians. In this year, he graduated from Shanghai Conservatory one year earlier than for the normal case, and was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Then he was appointed to the National Traditional Orchestra of China as a soloist. In 1989 he joined the International Carnival for Youths organized by North Korea and was awarded an arts diploma certificate. In 1991, he was admitted to the Royal Music Institute of Toronto to study the piano and vocal music. In 1993 he was employed by the Royal Music Institute of Toronto to be the first teacher historically teaching Chinese instrumental music performance making the erhu formally incorporated in a professional course.
